First distribution - Saturday 2 August

With your donations we made 45 families and two orphans incredibly happy: 45 bags of 50 kg of maize and soap packages for everyone.

First food distribution

I want to thank you so much for your donations. Today was the first day that we, with your money, made 45 families and two orphans incredibly happy!

We were able to buy 45 bags of 50 kg of maize and soap packages for everyone - both washing powder and regular soap. We make the purchases at small local shops, so local traders benefit too. This is also proof that your money is well spent.

Playground

The basic structure of the school is almost finished. We have now started laying out the garden and play area next to the school (see the drawing below). In the garden, the schoolchildren will have a place of their own to eat. We are also creating a small playing field where the village children can play football and volleyball together. We have planted young fruit trees all around the grounds. That way we want to make sure that in a few years' time, when the trees are fully grown, the children can enjoy their own fruit from the school garden.

Cheap Money

Cheap Money

Thanks to Rex, from now on we can do more with every euro donated to our foundation. Rex is a socially engaged local importer in Malawi who helps us exchange euros for Malawian kwacha. When we transferred money through regular banks, we received about 1,800 kwacha for one euro. Because of high inflation, however, the real value at the time was around 3,000 kwacha per euro. When we discovered that this made exchanging money through the bank a bad deal for us, we went looking for a sustainable and practical solution. Through his import business, Rex has kwacha available and was willing to exchange our euros at a rate of 1 euro = 3,000 kwacha. As a result, the same donation gives us around 66% more local funds for our projects in Mbamba Village Kande. This way we can make the best possible use of donations for education, food and local development.
